Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice

This report describes a patient satisfaction survey carried out in the ASL Foggia through a structured questionnaire on perceived quality. The main objective of the survey was the identification of the strengths and weaknesses of hospital care as perceived by patients that received health care in our hospitals.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice

The questionnaire was made up of 20 items investigating patients’ points of view on: why they choose hospital, satisfaction with technical skills and competencies of the clinical staff, the level of assistance and care they received by the hospital staff, the quality of the information received, quality of the hospital facilities (quality of food, cleanliness, condition of the furniture, etc.). There were also items on the overall judgment of perceived quality in respect of patients’ expectations and the possibility to express comments on the quality of care received or on particular problems encountered during hospital stay. In conclusion the questionnaire can be considered as a good tool to investigate the level of care the hospitals of ASL FG provide as perceived by patients and it could be successfully used by the hospital managers to have a more realistic idea of patients' expectations and of the general level of service provided by the hospital.
