Family caregivers knowledge about pressure ulcer prevention for people at risk of developing these lesions, and hence, provide accurate information to people at risk in order to prevent pressure ulcers at home.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice
 
Family caregivers shall complete a validated questionnaire that measured their knowledge of pressure ulcer prevention, then, depending on the degree of knowledge obtained they will be given relevant information in areas where they lack knowledge.

Data were obtained from 173 caregivers.

Features: 83.81% female, mean age 55.6 years (range = 25-85), 18% uneducated and 9.82% college educated, 37% engaged in their work, 67.63% are active , 23.2% more than 10 years of caregiver; 68.78% with no previous experience. 83.23% have a care support, especially family. 45% had received information from the nurse.

Prevention knowledge score was: mean 45.5 (sd = 30.6) out of a possible 100. Knowledge was acceptable in 66 people (38.1%) more than 50 points, low in 95 (54.9%) between 25 and 50 points, and only 13 (7.5%) scored less than 25, indicating very little knowledge.
