Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice

Our safety program is mainly aimed at improving prevention and reporting of occupational exposure to infection risk in critical care areas. Occupational (health professionals) exposure to infection risks implies consequent exposure of patients to the same risk.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice

The program for the management of occupational exposure to infectious risk (HBV-HCV-HIV) in operating theatres and intensive care unit allowed a significant improvement in the organisational climate, enabled behavioural changes and increased the reporting of incidents. In particular, it was based on: educational activities, specific operational kit with procedures, a permanent working group and a facilitator in the field. It led to better knowledege and understanding of the problem, meaningful rise in reporting and positive feedbacks by professionals.
