Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice
 
The PSP is aiming to establish lines of communication about patient safety among employees, executives, and managers so as to improve an open culture where the safety of patients is seen as the priority of the whole organisation.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice
 
Walkrounds are not a one off event but part of a continuing cycle of improvement.
It is essential to realise that the actual walkround needs to be built into a rigorous, organised process which has measurable outcomes. To ensure a commitment to action and impact the walkround process was divided into three phases, each containing a series of steps that need to be followed: preparation, the walkround and follow up.

Before the walkround process was started, we decided the composition of the group who will lead the process, what the ground rules will be, and how to record data and progress.
Walkrounds lasted no longer than 1 hour; all information discussed in a walkround were confidential. We supported and empowered employees to discuss safety issues openly without fear of recrimination.
We feedbacked and praised staff when areas of good practice are identified. The we were monitoring data and progress. Finally information about the Patient Safety Practice were made available to the patients and citizens.
