It is foreing body in vascular system placed through right vena subclavia, or internal jugular vein, or femoral vein in right atrium of the heart. Infectio inserted in central venous system through central venous catheter can be very dangerous and extended in body causing sepsis. It prolonges treatment, number of hospital days and it increases a cost of treatment.

Description of the Patient Safety Practice

Continous and systematic collestion, analysis and interpretation of data specific for practicular outcome which is important for planing, application and evaluation of procedures in practice. In this Patients Safety practice continues education of medical stuff who are hendling with central venous catheter is important. Education must be repeated a few times in year, and if some new techonolgies becomes imediatly educateted the stuff for this technology. Education must be made for hand hygiene, patients and personal protection and hygien with central venous catheter handling, selection of optimal catheter, daily evaluation of necessity for centarl venous catheter. We mad an protocol for handling and placement of central venous catheter and form for daily control of catheter. In this form we follow the date of central venous catheter palcement, typ of cathetter, name of the person who placed the cathetter, date of cleaning and bandaging , name of the person who did the cleanining, date of cathetter extraction, name of the person who extracted the cathetter and microbiological findings of cathetter tip. In our hospital we use that for past 8 years and we decrease infections for more than 50%.
