Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice

The pressure ulcers are areas of localized damage to the skin and subcutaneous tissue. They are generally the result of external forces (pressure, shear, friction). Their development occurs in institutional settings and community, and they are found more frequently in elderly, debilitated and in patients with reduced mobility. They are also seen in patients with acute illness and in patients with severe neurological deficits. The PSP aimed to: - define the most appropriate actions to be carried out together with standardization of treatments; - deepen individual cases or cases in specific sectors in order to promote continuous quality improvement of care.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice

According to the organization procedures, an annual survey is carried out in every single facility since 1999 and since 2008 in the pediatric wards. Thanks to this survey, we have been carrying out for 13 years, it is possible to know thoroughly this specific aspect of care and put forward improvement actions, regarding both organization and training.
