Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice

The practice aims at improving the performance of myocardial perfusion imaging resulting in optimized used of the scanner and reduced time of waiting for patients. It is not really clear how physicians were informed or convinced/made aware to send the referral to the nuclear medicine doctor.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice

The nuclear medicine doctor has to have all the right informations, before a patient is having MPI.
The doctor, who is sending the referral, is responsible, that all the right information is sent to the nuclear medicine doctor.
A referral should contain:
a) Medical history
b) How patients should be stressed (bicycle or dipyridamol? Lung function for patients with asthma)
c) Medications and information which should be paused.
d) Has the patient diabetes and if yes, which type
A paper with information about what a referral to MPI should contain, were made and sent to all relevant departments, and published in a document management system (PRI).
If information in the future is missing, the referral will be sent back with information about the missing parts and a request for a new referral with the correct information.
Attachment of relevant written information and/or photos, as appropriate
