Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice
 
The aim of this project is to improve the safety in all the operating rooms and in all the procedures performed in the local health trust of Pescara to minimize clinical risk and reduce complaints.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice
 
The checklist was adapted at the local level, according to the type of patient and admission, and a procedure aimed at promoting uniform behaviour from the professionals have been developed. The surgeon is in charge of carrying out correct patient identification, confirms suitability for surgery, marks the surgical site and verifies the form for informed consent is duly filled in. Before the patient it taken to the operating theatre, the nurse of the ward carries out patient identification, checks documents are filled in, verifies the patient has the best health condition possible to undergo surgery, checks pre-operative preparation has been carried out according to protocols.
The patient is involved in the whole process: at admission, he/she is informed about the checks that will be carried out by all the professionals involved in the different steps of the surgical pathway, where he/she is expected to actively participate.
Results: february-april 2014: 70 checklists have been analyzed. 80% of them have been filled in.
