Aim and the benefit of the Patient Safety Practice

The aim of the Speak up-project is to involve the patients in health care. Therefore, there has been developed a tool (postcards, online and SMS) to give the patients an opportunity to give their feedback to the hospitals. The tool provides a possibility for health care professionals, hospital managers etc. to get information from the patients about their experiences etc. with that exact unit/hospital. On the basis of the gathered information it will be possible for the ward/hospital to make improvements that are important to patients. On the other hand it gives the patient an opportunity to provide instant feedback to the hospital.
Description of the Patient Safety Practice

Patients and relatives can write down their experiences/feedback on the postcards and put it in the mailbox on the ward, write it online, or send an SMS. The hospitals can then use the feedback to make improvements according to the patient’s wishes. Currently, 231 units have joined the initiative. There is no standardised way or protocol for the use of data. The important part is that each ward/hospital learn from the feedback they get and make the necessary changes.
